THE Olympic spirit was a winner for Launceston Church Grammar School grade 2 pupils.

The pupils were encouraged into the spirit by Olympic Games fans Audrey Youl, Louise Fairfax, Sam Hallam and one of their teachers, Jane Jackson.

Mrs Jackson and Mrs Nicole Prewer (both grade 2 teachers), helped the children get into the spirit of the Olympic Games by organising the special guests to speak to the children about their sporting successes.

Mrs Youl (nee Moore) is an Olympian and dual Commonwealth Games attendee and was the first Tasmanian to swim at an Olympic Games in 1984.

Mr Hallam, a talented snow skier, represented Australia in the World Disability Championships.

He lost part of his leg in a farming accident at age 12.

Dr Fairfax has represented Australia in duathlon, triathlon, orienteering, athletics and stair climbing.

Mrs Jackson has represented Australia in the duathlon.

Mrs Prewer said the students enjoyed listening to the inspiring people.

"They were very excited to meet these people and asked many questions," she said.
